Gutters & Downpipes
Water Goes Where You Send It.
Your gutters are the roof's drainage system. When they fail, water ends up in eaves, walls and foundations instead of the stormwater.
Atlas Roofing installs, replaces and repairs gutters, downpipes, rainheads and leaf guards across Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast. Gutter systems are sized for Queensland summer downpour intensity rather than average rainfall, which is what prevents overflow into eaves and wall cavities.
Guttering is the most undersized component on a lot of Fraser Coast houses. A system that copes fine with steady rain will overflow in a summer downpour, and the water goes backwards into the eaves and down inside the wall cavity, where you will not see it until the cornice stains or the paint bubbles.
Rust is the other half of the story. Gutters hold water and debris against steel in a salt-air environment, which is close to a worst-case corrosion scenario. Once a gutter has rusted through at the low points, patching it buys you a season at best.
We size the system to the roof area feeding it and the rainfall intensity it actually has to handle, not to whatever was there before. That sometimes means bigger downpipes, more of them, or rainheads with proper overflow so that when the system is overwhelmed the water exits outside the building rather than inside it.
Gutters & Downpipes: What's Included

Gutters & Downpipes Questions
How do I know if my gutters need replacing rather than repairing?
Rust holes at the low points, sagging between brackets, water marks on the fascia, or overflow in ordinary rain all point to replacement. Isolated joint leaks and a few loose brackets are worth repairing. A free inspection settles it.
Are leaf guards worth it in Hervey Bay?
If you have trees overhanging the roof, yes. They cut the cleaning cycle substantially and stop the debris build-up that holds water against the steel and rusts gutters from the inside. They are not a substitute for ever cleaning the gutters again.
Why do my gutters overflow in heavy rain but not light rain?
Almost always because the system is undersized for downpour intensity, or the downpipes are too few, too small, or partly blocked. Guttering sized for average rainfall will overflow in a Queensland summer storm. The fix is usually more or larger downpipes and rainheads with proper overflow.
Can you replace gutters without replacing the roof?
Yes, gutter replacement is a standalone job. If your roof is also near the end of its life it is usually cheaper to do both together, since the access and set-up costs are shared, and we will tell you if that applies.
